Thesis

From prehistory on pirates have plagued the global economy. Primitive pirates of ancient times evolved into the always iconized pirate of the golden age of piracy, who morphed into the pirates of the 21st century. Modern maritime piracy is a hugely overlooked form of crime driven by desperation and poverty. Piracy now costs billions of dollars and thousands of human lives every year. If piracy does not soon gain the global attention it deserves, billions of more dollars and thousands of more lives will inevitably be lost.

About Me

Peter Ohrstrom is a student at Villanova University studying business. While attending high school at Wakefield School, a small private school in Northern Virginia, he tackled an honors thesis on piracy. Knowing he wanted to study business in college and naturally having an interest in pirates, he chose to write on the economic effects of piracy.
